Hively Recognized As a Bay Area 2024 Top Workplace

Hively is a multi-faceted social services agency that has been serving families for more than 48 years. The Pleasanton nonprofit was recently awarded a 2024 Top Workplaces honor by San Francisco Bay Area Top Workplaces. This list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by employee engagement technology partner Energage LLC. The confidential survey uniquely measures the employee experience and its component themes, which include employees feeling Respected and Supported, Enabled to Grow, and Empowered to Execute.

Over the last two years, Hively has scaled to meet growing demand in Alameda County for child care assistance, family resources, and mental health support. That means growing, attracting, and retaining talented employees. Those have been priorities from the very start for former HR executive turned Hively CEO, Mary Hekl.

"One of Hively's top priorities is to take care of our employees and create an environment where they feel safe and valued and where they have opportunities to learn and grow,” says Hekl. “Our employees take incredible care of our families and providers, showing kindness and compassion while diligently connecting them to the services and resources they need. We take care of our employees, and they in turn take excellent care of our clients and partners. The highest honor that Hively can have is being named a Top Place to Work."

“Earning a Top Workplaces award is a badge of honor for companies, especially because it comes authentically from their employees,” according to Eric Rubino, Energage CEO. “That's something to be proud of. In today's market, leaders must ensure they’re allowing employees to have a voice and be heard. That's paramount. Top Workplaces do this, and it pays dividends.”

Hively’s mission is to build meaningful connections with families and communities, ensuring access to resources every child in Alameda County needs to thrive, officials say. Hively transforms the lives of children and families to benefit all communities and ensure a promising future for generations to come. The nonprofit does this by supporting families through child care stipends and referrals, parent education classes, family resource navigation, and professional mental health counseling services.

The nonprofit has developed two Hively Family Resource Centers (HFRC) recently. The Tri-Valley HFRC is located in Pleasanton at 7901 Stoneridge Drive in Suite 150. The center provides a “one-stop shop for families to obtain all the basic necessities they need,” according to officials, who note that qualified families “can receive diapers and wipes (while supplies last), new and gently used children’s clothing, shoes, early literacy materials, and baby formula.” HFRC acts as a community hub, in part by hosting Parent Cafes and support groups and also by helping families navigate other available resources in the community. The resources at the center are provided free of charge to families in need.
